Cattle have been a part of my whole life! I was raised on a dairy farm (the youngest of four girls), worked as a Veterinary Medical Technician in Sleepy Eye for 10 years, enjoyed 5+ years as a Dairy Herd Improvement Association Supervisor, and for the past 14 years, have worked beside my husband, tending to the land and our herd of cattle on a daily basis. As one involved with cattle, I know the importance of research, promotion and education to keep the industry viable and moving forward. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of traveling to Taiwan and Japan as a member of a Beef Leadership Team and saw first hand how important the beef checkoff dollars are in promoting and increasing demand for US beef in the foreign markets. In one of my previous jobs, I had the privilege of working in a sales department for a promotional products company which taught me the skills and importance of "selling" whatever product you have. In order to sell, one needs to be passionate and knowledgeable about the product, and to also understand your customers . I feel that the Cattlemen's Beef Board with their responsibility of approving the budget for its national check-off funded programs, does a good job of helping us, the individual producer to enhance our opportunities for growth and success in the beef industry. With my past and present experience with cattle and people, I look forward to being an asset to this board, to encourage the beef industry to grow with respect, integrity and transparency.
