After earning a degree in Business Finance from Creighton University, Mike returned to his family’s third-generation farm in Iowa to raise cattle, corn, and soybeans. The Holdens retain their own replacement females, sell some heifers and bulls, and market calves directly to end consumers via their small private-label meat company. Mike served on his county cattlemen’s board for more than 30 years. He also served on the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association state board; was the Iowa Beef Industry Council’s USMEF board representative; and is a member of the Greene County and Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa Corn Growers, and Iowa Soybean Association.
